Emergency Powers para kay DUTERTE, para malabanan ang COVID-19, Kinontra ni Hontiveros!

For Senator Risa Hontiveros there is no reason to give President Rodrigo Roa Duterte more power to address the rapid spread of coronavirus disease 2019 (covid-19).

"The proposed grant of additional powers to the executive branch is clearly unnecessary to address the most pressing needs of health workers, COVID-19 patients, and poor Filipinos alike in this critical period," boladas the senator.

According to the senator, there are existing laws to give the government an effective way to counter crises.

"Our existing laws already grant the government the powers and other necessary tools needed to mount an effective response against COVID-19," Hontiveros added.

Senadora Hontiveros also did not attend the special session, which discusses giving President Duterte the power to take immediate action on the covid-19 situation. According to the senator, he simply follows the protocol set by the Department of Health (DOH).

"I am strictly following the health protocol set by the DOH and am currently under self-quarantine set to end by March 25. As part of the Senate Minority, I have asked the Senate President to allow my participation thru teleconferencing," Hontiveros promised.

It was recalled yesterday that Malacañang had a proposal sent to the congress where the executive asked that President Duterte be given emergency powers to address the threat of infectious disease.

Some of the powers stated in the proposal include authorizing President Duterte to take over business establishments and public utilities to provide temporary accommodation for health workers.

Currently canceled by the administration of classes in schools, the government has also implemented an enhanced quarantine community throughout the island of Luzon. And recently the government has again subjected the whole Philippines to the "State of Calamity".
