MalacaƱang was overwhelmingly surprised about the report that Police Colonel Jovie Espenido's name is included in PNP's narco list.
Presidential Spokesman Salvador Panelo said he had just heard the report and will ask President Rodrigo Duterte about it.
They added that the narco list actually included the official name of many drug syndicates in Visayas and Mindanao.
“If that is officially received by the Office of the President, the President will investigate. Parang imposible na mangyari ‘yun. Hindi ko alam kung hindi kasali, but I’m telling you is we have to validate that. We will check kung totoo o hindi. Iba-validate natin ang veracity ng report,” said Panelo.
The report about Espinido being relieved also surprised Panelo because to his knowledge Espinido is in Iloilo.
The report on Espenido first appeared in Rappler, so Panelo said it could be questionable because he said the online news agency was known for fake news.
“Galing pala sa Rappler. Pag galing sa Rappler eh kuwestiyonable. I’m saying that if its coming from Rappler which is known for the spreading fake news, medyo I will have to confirm whether true or not,” Panelo said.
Espenido was the official leader of the raid on the home of former Ozamiz City Mayor Reynaldo Parojinog which caused the mayor's death, including the death of Albuera, Leyte Mayor Rolando Espinosa Sr.
