DUTERTE: Cardinal Tagle, Sinibak sa Pwesto ni Pope Francis dahil sa Pamumulitika
On Tuesday, President Rodrigo Roa Duterte said that Pope Francis has removed Cardinal Luis Antonio G. Tagle as archbishop of Manila because of his politics. This announcement was made by President Duterte in his address to the 2020 General Assembly of the League of Municipalities of the Philippines (LMP). President Duterte further alleged that Tagle was investigated and replaced by an "officer in charge".
“See, they used the money to contribute to the yellows. Look at what happened. We don't have a bishop now. Don't you know? He was removed. We were given a caretaker now who is a priest. Manila does not have a bishop… The Pope got mad because he meddled with politics. That's the truth. That's why we were given an officer in charge. We don't have a bishop. Tagle was out. He was investigated. That's an open secret, ”President Duterte said.
As 2018 recalls Tagle's homily, he made statements against bullies who abused their power. For some of our countrymen, Cardinal Tagle is referring to President Duterte.
“Don't bully anyone. Do not use your power to disrespect others. Do not use your power to coerce others… Just because you are in power, you already have the right to trample upon others. In truth, the bully, he who uses power to belittle his fellow man, he is the one who is most afraid and insecure… The message I'm reading was from the time of Jesus, but it seems that it was written just yesterday. The secret to happiness is still the same: do not belittle others, ”Tagle said in 2018.
President Duterte defends and says he is not bullying. The Catholic Church is often criticized by President Duterte for its hypocrisy.
